THIS ISSUE HITS HOME FOR ME… AND YOU?? Dear NW Indiana Neighbor Last Wednesday June 5, I was invited to speak at Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church in Dyer. I spoke about Balance and Dizziness...particularly how to conquer unsteadiness, dizziness issues, and how to prevent falling. Balance and dizziness issues hits home for me as I myself suffer from occasional dizziness...and so does my mom. Hers is particularly bad when it hits her, and I get concerned about her falling. What’s even more alarming is the frequency of falling in older adults. According to the Centers for Disease Control: • 27% of adults age 65-74 years old fall • 30% for those who are 75-84years old • 37% for those over 85 years old And every 20 minutes, an older adult dies from a fall in the United States. Many more are injured. What one of the attendees at Holy Shepherd told me was particularly eye-opening: “Dr. Arlan-it’s not the broken hip, it’s the nursing home I don’t want. I want to remain independent.” I’d like to do my share to help...but I need your assistance. I’m trying to reach out to as many clubs, organizations, and church groups as possible to spread the word about fall prevention, conquering dizziness, and remaining independent. Do you belong to a church group, club, or an organization whose members would benefit from a presentation about Fall Prevention, Balance and Dizziness? If you do, I would love to speak with you. Simply call my Director of Public Relations, Nathan Hand, at 219-765-6850 to set up a meeting. Looking forward to speaking with you, and hopefully presenting to your group. Sincerely, Dr. Arlan Alburo, PT, DPT, MTC Orthopedic and Balance Therapy Specialists PS - Simply call my Director of Public Relations, Nathan Hand, at 219-765-6850 to set up a meeting. PPS - When I do these presentations on Balance, Dizziness and Fall Prevention, it’s packed with information that attendees can take home and immediately use to help themselves.
