NOTICE
Notice is hereby given that the Board of School Trustees of the Lake Station Community
Schools shall convene on Thursday, July 25, 2019, at 6:00 p.m. in the Community
Room at Edison Jr. Sr. High School, 3304 Parkside Avenue, Lake Station, Lake County,
Indiana, for a public meeting on the proposed Fifth Amendment to Addendum to
Superintendent’s Contract, at which time the Board of School Trustees will meet to
discuss and hear objections to and support for the proposed amendment to contract.

*Indicates that the Board contribution may be adjusted if the carrier increases the
premium for same level of coverage, or if the membership dues are increased for same
memberships.

**Indicates that this benefit varies from year to year depending on whether a stipend
is issued to teachers and Administrators and what that stipend is. If there is no stipend
provided to teachers and Administrators, Superintendent does not receive a stipend
either.
***Indicates that beginning on July 1, 2018, and on each July 1 thereafter, the
Superintendent’s Contract shall automatically be extended for an additional one (1)
year unless the Board provides the Superintendent with written notice of its intention
not to extend the Superintendent’s Contract for an additional year on or before June
1st of each year.
Vacation. The Agreement calls for 20 days with pay each calendar year as vacation
time to be taken during the period of July 1 through June 30 of each year. Unused
vacation days may accumulate up to 60 days. The incoming Superintendent may
transfer 40 of his unused vacation days from his present place of employment. Any
unused days above 60 accumulated days will be paid before July 1 annually at the rate
of $300.00/day. At retirement, any accumulated vacation days will be paid at the rate
of $100.00/day into the Superintendent’s 403(b) account.
Sick Leave. The Agreement calls for 15 days of leave annually, with 12 days being
used as sick leave and 3 as personal leave. The Superintendent may transfer up to
80 days of sick leave accumulation from his former employers upon employment,
and then transfer 30 additional days per year employed, until all sick leave from his
former employers has been transferred. Leave days may accumulate up to 260 days.
At retirement, up to 100 accumulated leave days will be paid at the rate of $100.00/day
into the Superintendent’s 403(b) account.
Bereavement. The Agreement calls for bereavement not exceeding seven (7)
consecutive calendar days following the death of the Superintendent’s spouse, parents,
children, grandparent, grandchild, brother, sister, father-in-law, mother-in-law, sonin-law, daughter-in-law, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, brother-in-law, sister-in-law,
grandparent of spouse, or person living in the same home as part of the family. These
days will not be deducted from the accumulated sick leave.
Medical Examination. The Agreement calls for a comprehensive medical examination
for the Superintendent every 2 years, with the cost of the same borne by the Board of
School Trustees.
Evaluation. The Superintendent will be evaluated annually related to the position
description of the Superintendent and the goals and objectives set by the Board.
Workers’ Compensation. If the Superintendent is injured in the line of duty and
becomes eligible to receive such compensation, the Board will pay the difference
between
Workers’ Compensation benefits and the Superintendent’s regular salary pro-rated
on the daily rate, and the same will not be deducted from accumulated sick leave.
This benefit is limited to the qualifying period as stipulated in the disability insurance
program.
Health Insurance. After the Superintendent has been employed as the Superintendent
for six (6) consecutive years, if the Superintendent retires prior to being eligible for
Medicare benefits, the Superintendent shall be allowed to maintain his current health
insurance policy with Lake Station Community Schools at a cost of $100.00 per month
payable by the Superintendent, with the remainder of the premium to be paid by the
Board. This provision shall terminate immediately upon the Superintendent reaching an
age of eligibility for Medicare.
