Patients with AFib are at an increased risk of stroke. The WATCHMAN device can be implanted in the heart to seal off the small appendage that increases the risk of clotting and stroke. This procedure can eliminate the need for blood thinners for many patients and help AFib patients return to their regular lifestyle and activities. This program is free but registration is required. Each screening includes: one-minute fingertip EKG and AFib risk assessment. The Community Stroke & Rehabilitation Center in Crown Point features a 40-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit that includes therapy gyms and living skills space. The four-story, 129,000 squarefoot facility offers diagnostic imaging, lab services, immediate care, Women’s Diagnostic Center, physician practices and outpatient therapy areas. Immediate Care hours are Monday – Friday 8 am to 8 pm; Saturday and Sunday from 8 am to 4:30 pm. Learn more at COMHS.org.
