Well, it’s been a while since you’ve seen me in this spot.
But at my pay grade, it’s not an issue.
Been to Denver to see my grown sons and their girlfriends. Back to Rocky Mt. National Park... a pretty impressive thing for a boy raised on the parries of the Midwest.
But my mind has too often been on my sons’ godfather who was also my best man (in more ways besides standing by my side when I wed). He passed away on Memorial Day.
Kerry O’Donnell was an icon as a teacher at St. Victor School for 32 years. He was also a long time CMPD worker/volunteer, basketball coach, youth summer program mentor, outreach team (alcohol intervention) member, and food pantry volunteer.
Christians are taught to see Jesus in others. Not always easy ... but with Kerry O’Donnell, it wasn’t hard at all.
The world is a better place because Kerry O’Donnell was born into it, and a little diminished at his passing.
The three main events of a Calumet City summer are nearing.
This weekend is Family Fest — St. Andrew the Apostle’s annual food, fellowship and music get-together.
On Saturday, June 23, the Relics will play, as their name implies, a great selection of oldies from 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday will see a live polka band from 3 to 8 p.m.
You have free articles remaining.
There will be games and raffles and a well-endowed beverage station. And always good people.
St. Andrew is located at 768 Lincoln Ave.
Calumet Memorial Park District and the city of Calumet City will again combine to celebrate Freedom’s Eve, appropriately enough, Tuesday at TF North.
Festivities start at 5:30 p.m. and include live music, food and one of the best fireworks shows around.
TF North is located at 755 Pulaski Rd.
St Victor will present its annual VictorFest whoop-de-doo July 12-15. VictorFest is a celebration of the parish, its former members and the larger Calumet City community.
Featured are a full carnival (passes available), a wide variety of food, live music throughout, a Saturday car show, vendors, bingo/lotteria and a grand raffle.
Oh…did I mention a beer/wine/margarita garden? It’s a good time.
Hope to see you at all these events!
Thanks for reading.
