Real. Strong. Girls. Initiative.

Brianna Cherise Hairlson shows girls how to create vision boards during a Real.Strong.Girls. session at Purdue Northwest in 2017.

Real. Strong. Girls, an initiative of Lake Area United Way, will hold their first Lock-In on Feb. 24 at the Southlake Family YMCA in Crown Point.

The lock-in, which is sponsored by sponsored by Mielle Organics and the Crown Point Community Foundation, is designed to ignite Lake County girls’ power to thrive and believe in their ability to be unstoppable.

It will provide attendees a chance to mix and mingle with other girls from around the county, take part in games and activities, attend breakout sessions, and enjoy food and snacks. The event will take advantage of all the Southlake Family YMCA facilities have to offer.

“This will be an amazing overnight experience for the girls in Lake County,” said Lisa Daugherty, President & CEO of Lake Area United Way. “It’s a great chance for the girls to get to meet new people and try some new experiences. We’ll have plenty of fun activities, but also educational and affirmational breakout sessions so the girls will leave with some tips and tricks on how to succeed when faced with various challenges.”

“Real. Strong. Girls. seeks to empower girls in our community to grow into strong, successful women, and Mielle Organics shares that goal. I am passionate about inspiring women and girls to become successful in business, and entrepreneurship and this program is a great opportunity to give girls the confidence and skills they’ll need to succeed in whatever they choose to do later in life. We are proud to be a sponsor of the Real. Strong. Girls. lock-in.” said founder and CEO Monique Rodriquez.

“We are privileged to support the Real. Strong. Girls. lock-in event by providing a grant. What a wonderful opportunity for young gals within our community to strengthen their leadership capabilities, gain new friendships, and learn new skills for their future success in work and life,” said Mary Nielsen, President of the Crown Point Community Foundation. “It should be an amazing night!”

The lock-in will take place from 7 p.m. Feb. 24 through 7 a.m. Feb. 25. Attendees also have the option to leave early if they are not comfortable spending the night. Early pick up will be at 11 p.m. on Feb. 24. The event is free.

Real. Strong. Girls. is an initiative of Lake Area United Way that focuses on recognizing the strength and leadership capabilities of girls in Lake County, and providing them the support and resources that develop that potential.
