LIBERTY TOWNSHIP | Porter Health Care System will host a candlelight vigil at 6:30 p.m. tonight on the front lawn of Porter Regional Hospital, in recognition of National Nurses Week.

The vigil will honor the birthday of Florence Nightingale, founder of nursing as a modern profession. 

Porter's nursing community invites all area nursing schools' practicum students to participate in the tribute on the hospital campus, 85 E. U.S. 6.

Church to host free health fair

VALPARAISO | The Nursing and Health Ministry of St. Paul Catholic Church will host its eighth annual free community health fair from 9 a.m.-noon May 17 in the school gym, 1755 W. Harrison Blvd.

More than 30 health vendors will participate in the event, which will include free health screenings, giveaways and raffles. 

Babypalooza geared for expecting, current parents

HARVEY | For people planning to start a family, already expecting a child or who already have a child at home, Ingalls Memorial Hospital is hosting Babypalooza.

The event will last from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. May 24 at the hospital, 1 Ingalls Drive.

Highlights include hourly educational sessions by Ingalls childbirth experts, car seat safety checks, tours of the Ingalls maternity suites, free samples, raffles and more.

Rehabilitation center to host open house

MUNSTER | Flexeon Rehabilitation, a physical therapy and sports medicine center, will host an open house at its Munster location.

The event will last from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday at the facility, 8317 Calumet Ave.

Discussion to focus on snoring causes, treatments

MUNSTER | Snoring can be a sign of a larger medical problem.

Dr. Tapan Desai, a board certified pulmonologist and sleep medicine specialist, will discuss respiratory issues and nighttime sleep problems, including how they are diagnosed and common ways they are treated.

Doctor to lead sinus talk

VALPARAISO | Porter Regional Hospital tonight will host a free community wellness program about sinus problems. 

Dr. Geoffrey Schwartz will discuss symptom management and the various methods of treating sinus problems.

The event will take place at 6 p.m. at Strongbow Inn, 2405 E. U.S. 30.

Speaker to discuss grief at memorial service

HOMEWOOD | Life coach, motivational speaker and author Tom Zuba will offer a new perspective on grieving at the Ingalls Hospice semi-annual memorial service May 17. 

Zuba became an unwilling expert on grief after suffering several losses within his family. 

At the hospice event, Zuba will share tools and knowledge about living with loss, as well as wisdom and knowledge he has gained over the years to create a full, joy-filled life. 

The memorial service will run from 10 a.m.-noon at the Marie Irwin Community Center, 8120 Highland Road.

The event will include a ceremony of remembrance and a celebration of loved ones who died, including a symbolic release of doves.
