ArcelorMittal Indiana Harbor manager joins state chamber board

ArcelorMittal Indiana Harbor General Manager Wendell Carter was named to the Indiana Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors

Wendell Carter, ArcelorMittal Indiana Harbor vice president and general manager, will represent Northwest Indiana on the Indiana Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

Carter has worked in the steel industry for 34 years and had managed the sprawling steel mill in East Chicago, billed as the largest steelmaking complex in North America, for the last six years. He's overseen the consolidation of operations in Indiana Harbor, including the dismantling of blast furnaces and the shuttering of finishing lines.

He will serve a three-year term through 2020 for the Indiana Chamber, the state's largest business lobby with more than 25,000 members. Carter is one of more than 100 chamber board members who serve in a high-level executive role.

“Our new board members bring their knowledge, skills and experience as professionals and executives, and as Hoosiers from around the state,” said Kevin Brinegar, Indiana chamber president and CEO. “We are pleased to welcome Wendell to the board of directors and look forward to his input as we work together to promote economic prosperity and job growth in Indiana.”
