Hammond native Louis Dybel, Jr. wrote a book about his work as a hotel concierge in downtown Chicago titled "20 Years on the Gold Coast," and will sign copies at Miles Books Saturday.

Dybel, now a Griffith resident, will appear from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Miles Books, 2819 Jewett Ave. in downtown Highland.

His anecdotal memoir concerns his run-in with celebrities like Princess Diana, Oprah Winfrey, Mick Jagger, Chance the Rapper and Scarlett Johansson while he worked at The Drake Hotel, the Warwick Allerton Chicago and the Park Hyatt Chicago.

"When one or two people tell you to write a book, you might ignore it," he said. "But when hundreds of people tell you you've got such great stories you should write a book you have to take it seriously. It's a snapshot of memories I had as a kid in a five-star hotel with presidents, royalty and rock stars."

Dybel, who's also the director of public relations for the Chicago Hotel Concierge Association, recently promoted the book on Lakeshore Public Radio and was invited to appear on WGN. It's gotten press coverage, including from Broadway World.

"It's a fun book with true stories that would interest anyone from Chicago or the Region," he said. "It's an almost fly-on-the-wall account of running into celebrities, interacting with celebrities. The feedback's been really great."
