DoorDash now delivering restaurant food in Northwest Indiana

Bishop Donald Hying blesses the MTC My Transportation Company, which launched in October.

If you don't feel like cooking, going out to eat, nuking a Hungry Man or ordering the same old pizza, there's a new option for dinner.

San Francisco-based DoorDash, the popular restaurant home delivery service, is now established in the Northwest Indiana market. People can download the DoorDash app to get food delivery from local restaurants such as Aladdin Pita, Burgerhaus, Round the Clock, Langel's Pizza, Pepe's Mexican Restaurant, Tandoor Indian Cuisine and House of Kobe.

DoorDash promises to deliver meals from local restaurants within an hour for an added fee every day from 8:30 a.m. to 10:59 p.m.

"DoorDash allows you to have food delivered from many restaurants in the local area that may not have a delivery staff or limited delivery areas," said Mark Camarena, president, founder and driver of MTC-My Transportation Company LLC, one of DoorDash's contractors. "For example, Seasons in Merrillville and Giueseppes in Scherrerville have been frequent pick-up locations for me."

In additional to ferrying restaurant food for door dash, Camarena's Dyer-based company has been making special deliveries since it launched in October.

"We transport people, food and things," he said. "Most common are to Midway and O’Hare and a doctor’s appointment. We do deliver gifts on birthdays, deliver a lot of food."

People can download the DoorDash app on their smartphones or visit the website doordash.com and see if they live in the coverage area.
