Female executive to give inspirational talk about her journey at IUN

NIPSCO Executive Vice President and President Violet Sistovaris will give an inspiration talk about how she rose to become an executive at Indiana University Northwest in Gary.

NIPSCO Executive Vice President and President Violet Sistovaris will give an inspirational talk titled "Empowering and Inspiring the Region: A Female Executive’s Journey" at Indiana University Northwest in Gary next month as part of a celebration of Women's History Month.

Sistovaris, an IUN alumna, will discuss how she climbed the corporate ladder over her 30-year career and will share lessons she learned along the way at 5:30 p.m. March 6 in the Bruce W. Bergland Auditorium in the Savannah Center by the campus's main parking lot.

"During her talk, Sistovaris will offer key lessons in leadership, personal growth, and career management," IUN said in a news release. "She will share her personal story overcoming gender differences, remaining customer-focused and offer other reflections about working for more than a decade in the banking industry — valuable lessons for both men and women at any stage of their career."

Sistovaris, who earned an MBA from IUN, also worked as an executive at NiSource and spent 10 years as a banker, including a stint as vice president of training and development at Centier Bank. In her current role, she oversees operations, regulatory policy and compliance functions for the Merrillville-based utility.

She also co-sponsors NiSource’s Women in Leadership initiatives, including the Women in Leadership Mentoring Program and the employee resource group DAWN: Developing & Advancing Women.

"She will discuss the nuances of managing one’s career, such as: 'looking' the part, capability building, relationship building, and managing fears," IUN said in a news release. "On the topic of leadership, she will address how to maintain authenticity and influence while also working toward inclusion and diversity. Finally, she will guide attendees on how to simplify complex ideas and work effectively in the information age."
