If you run a family-owned business and are thinking about retirement, you'll have to start planning for what comes next, especially if there's no heir apparent.

Anne Smart, director of the Family Business Center of Loyola University Chicago's Quinlan School of Business, will break down your options for the future of the family business at a March 14 seminar at Centier Bank in Merrillville. Smart, who has worked as a career and human resources consultant and in fundraising for Loyola University Chicago and the University of Illinois at Chicago, champions family-owned businesses and the families that own and operate them in her role as leader of Loyola's Family Business Center.

Smart will give the talk "Succession or Sell?: What you need to know, but no one wants to talk about" at 8 a.m. March 14 at the Centier Corporate Center, 600 E. 84th Ave. in Merrillville. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., and Smart will answer questions from 9 to 9:30 a.m. after her hour-long presentation.
