Southlake Mall Cinnabon closed only temporarily

The Cinnabon is temporarily closed at the Southlake Mall.

Lovers of cinnamon rolls and other ooey-gooey sweets and sugary baked goods shouldn't panic.

Yes, you heard right. While Cinnabon did close at the Southlake Mall in Hobart — Google even erroneously claims it's "permanently closed" — the store is in fact coming back sometime soon, though it's not known exactly when.

"The Southlake Mall bakery is only closed temporarily for remodeling," Cinnabon spokeswoman Marissa Sharpless said. "We do not have an official re-opening date due to construction timelines fluctuating, but we are targeting a reopening before the holidays."

The Cinnabon across from Vans and Zales on the first floor of the super-regional mall on U.S. 30 and Mississippi Street is currently walled over. Signs say "Coming soon," "A new home to your cravings," "Opening fall 2018" and "Now hiring all positions."

Anyone who needs a cinnamon roll fix in the meantime could visit the Cinnabon at the Travel Pilot Center at 2501 Burr St. in Gary or at the Flying J truck stop at 1401 Ripley St. in Lake Station. Cinnabon also has about two dozen locations scattered across the Chicago metropolitan area on the other side of the state line.
