"It is with great pride that we can accept this award, provide a safe work environment and create a safety-first culture," the company said in a press release. "We are rightly proud of our teammates and the efforts they put into safety, and could not do this without everyone doing their part."

Walsh and Kelly's offices are located in Griffith and South Bend, and it operates asphalt plants in Griffith, Lowell, LaPorte, Valparaiso and South Bend that produce mixes for roads, highways and parking lots. The company, which doubles as a road-building contractor for various government agencies, likes to brag that "if you drive the roads of northwest Indiana with any regularity, then chances are you’ll drive on a road that Walsh & Kelly, Inc. has built or renovated."
