Centier warns customers of a potential scam.

Centier is warning customers in Northwest Indiana about a potential scam in which they reveal their debit card number to someone posing as the bank via text message.

"There have been text messages made stating that the recipient’s debit card is being restricted and prompting them to reply by entering their debit card number," Centier said in a statement. "Centier Bank will never ask you to enter account information without the proper security."

The Merrillville-based family-owned bank, a Region institution since 1895 that has branches in Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Allen, Boone, Elkhart, Hamilton, Marion, Marshall, St. Joseph, and Tippecanoe counties, is encouraging people to contact them if they received that message or responded to the text with their debit card number.

Anyone affected should call Centier's Client Service Center at 1-888-CENTIER.
