Glenmount Global Solutions, ArcelorMittal and Ports of Indiana win AMM awards

Three local companies won prestigious Awards for Steel Excellence from American Metal Market, one of the premier trade publications in the steel industry.

Every year, AMM extends the Awards for Steel Excellence industry honors at a formal dinner in New York City that's been described as "the Oscars for the steel industry."

Portage-based Glenmount Global Solutions and ArcelorMittal R&D in East Chicago, along with and SR-Instruments Oy of Finland, won Technology Provider of the Year. Glenmount Global Solutions was recognized for its work on the Detmaster MRM automatic rollmark detector that immediately detects and alerts operators to costly rollmarks, a technology ArcelorMittal has been installing at its plants to benefit its automotive customers.

Indianapolis-based Ports of Indiana, which handles a large amount of steel at the Ports of Indiana-Burns Harbor on Lake Michigan, took home the award for Logistics/Transportation Provider of the Year.

Other local nominees included ArcelorMittal USA, which was up for Best Environmental Responsibility/Stewardship; Kenwal Steel, which has a location in Burns Harbor and was a finalist for Service Center of the Year; and Carmeuse Lime and Stone North America, which has an operation in Gary and was nominated for Raw Materials/Consumables Provider of the Year. Portage-based Falk PLI also was up for an award for innovation.

American Metal Market editors picked the finalists, and a panel of steel industry veterans selected the winners.
