Merrillville's Karma Cigar Bar, which recently underwent a multimillion-dollar renovation, has added a liquor license.
The cigar bar at 850 81st Ave. in Merrillville, which added a bar after it was allowed to by a change in state law, already had beer and wine licenses and now can serve whiskey, scotch, bourbon, rum, vodka, and tequila, as well as mixed drinks.
"The additional license and new ventilation system will add a new height of experience for the cigar lover of the region," said Dhiren Shah, owner and president.
The cigar bar on U.S. 30 also invested in a new state-of-the-art ventilation system with an air scrubbing system that "allows our guests to smoke cigars while not subjecting them to added odor and haze of smoke from other guests in our lounge." New power vents refresh the air about 10 times an hour.
Karma Cigar Bar claims to be "the first and only full-service cigar bar in the Chicagoland area" and carries top cigar brands like Cohiba, Hirochi Robaina, La Aroma De Cuba, La Flor Dominicana, Rocky Patel and Roma Craft. The retailer also sells accessories like humidors, cigar cutters, lighters, and butane, and hosts regular events like fundraisers and wine tastings.
