A new president has taken over the Walsh & Kelly construction firm in Griffith after a consolidation.

The 88-year-old Griffith-based construction firm merged with Milestone Contractors in Indianapolis and Wabash Valley Asphalt in Terre Haute, companies all that had been previously owned by Heritage Construction and Materials. Walsh & Kelly is now known as Milestone Contractors North.

Mark Thompson is serving as president of Milestone Contractors South, which encompasses the operations of Milestone Contractors in central Indiana and Wabash Valley Asphalt in Terre Haute.

Todd Fawver is now manager of Milestone Contractors North, which consists of Walsh & Kelley's offices in Griffith and South Bend and Milestone's office in Lafayette.

Founded in 1933 by brothers-in-law John Kelly and John Walsh, Walsh & Kelly Inc. is one of the most prominent civil construction firms in the Region, with asphalt plants in Griffith, South Bend, LaPorte, Lowell and Valparaiso. It does highway, asphalt, heavy construction, private and commercial projects across Northwest Indiana.

Executive Vice President Mark Andrews said Walsh & Kelly would rebrand as Milestone, including by painting the new name and colors on its fleet of trucks, but also would continue to use the Walsh & Kelly name "in the background."

"The Walsh & Kelly name will continue to live on for the history," he said.
