Southlake Security in Griffith bought out

Brian Duffy, president of Electronic Security for Per Mar Security Services, has negotiated an acquisition of Southlake Security with owners Dan and Joy Barnes. 

Davenport, Iowa-based Per Mar Security Services acquired Southlake Security Systems in downtown Griffith for an undisclosed sum.

Dan Barnes founded the company, which provides residential and small commercial alarm systems in the Region and across the Chicago area, in 1978. Over the last 39 years, he has built up a base of nearly 1,800 customers.

Southlake Security sells burglary, fire and panic alarms, as well as video surveillance services. 

“It has been a pleasure to work with Dan Barnes over the past several months finalizing this transaction," Per Mar Security Services President of Electronic Security Brian Duffy said.

"Dan has been doing things the right way for 39 years, and we are honored that he has placed his trust in Per Mar to treat his customers well for many more."

Barnes plans to retire. 

Per Mar is hiring Southlake Security's three employees and is taking over the company's office at 217 E. Main St., Griffith. It will operate under Per Mar's South Bend outpost.

The 64-year-old Per Mar has 23 branches, 18 satellite offices and more than 2,400 employees in Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee and Wisconsin. The company claims to be the "largest, family-owned, full-service security company in the Midwest" and offers alarms, alarm monitoring, security cameras, smart home automation, background checks and investigations.
