Proud history of family ownership at Christenson Chevy

When Jon Johnson of Cedar Lake walked into the Christenson Chevrolet dealership in Highland recently, he only wanted to browse the selection of cars.

He entered the 2016 Win A Chevy Malibu Sweepstakes, and ultimately won a pair of tickets to see the Chicago Blackhawks play.

And although the team lost the game he went to, he has nothing but positive things to say about the dealership.

“They’ve got friendly staff, a good selection of vehicles, and they’re really nice people,” Johnson said.

The ticket give-away is part of the 2016 Win a Chevy Malibu Sweepstakes, sponsored by The Times Media Co. and Northwest Indiana Chevrolet Dealers, who have partnered for the eighth year to give away a new car.

The Chevrolet Malibu is a redesigned, midsized sedan that appeals to all demographics. It has features such as parental controls that let parents know how their teen drivers are doing, including audible warnings if the car is traveling above the speed limit or if occupants aren’t wearing their seatbelts. The vehicle also has its own Wi-Fi connection and smartphone integration systems.

Last year, more than 15,000 people entered the contest.

The Christenson family takes pride in the Chevy dealership it has owned and operated since it first opened in Griffith in 1951.

The dealership, which moved from Griffith to Highland in the 1960s, is now owned by Milford Christenson and run by his son and grandson, Dean Christenson and Dean Christenson Jr.

“The dealership is locally owned, and family owned, and we’re proud of that,” said Jim Schroeder, Internet Sales Director for the dealership.

Schroeder said the dealership and its employees actively participate in community service projects and charity events, and have an active Facebook page where they can communicate with the community and their customers.

“We’re the number-one GM-Certified pre-owned vehicle dealer in Northwest Indiana, and we have indoor showrooms filled with our new and used cars,” he said. “We have a lot of great deals on new vehicles and a great leasing program. We really have something for everyone and can help them find the vehicle that meets their needs.”
