An exhibit and book honoring the life and times of Valparaiso Union Army Maj. Erasmus Gilbreath launched Wednesday night at the Prtizker Military Museum & Library in Chicago. The book and exhibit, both titled, "Dignity of Duty," are based on the copious war-time journals of Gilbreath, a 37-year officer in the Army who served in nearly every major battle of the Civil War's eastern theater. Gilbreath found alongside hundreds of Northwest Indiana soldiers in the 20th Indiana Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War, America's bloodiest conflict. Here are some images of the exhibit and book launch Wednesday at the museum, 104 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago.
