Burn 'Em Brewing opening newly built brewery at more high-profile site in Michigan City this weekend
After almost a year of construction and nearly a decade at its old place, Burn 'Em Brewing is about to toast its newly built location at a more high-profile spot in Michigan City.
The acclaimed and innovative craft brewery, known for craft beers like Kreamed Corn, Hipster Juicebag and 14 Buck Chuck, has long been nestled in a remote, out-of-the-way spot amid blueberry fields at 718 Freyer Road. It sent off its longtime location with a farewell bash Saturday.
Burn 'Em Brewing will open its new $1.6 million brewpub at a larger and more visible at 1215 E. 2nd St. from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday.
Burn ‘Em Brewing, which also operates the Bare Bones Gastropub in LaPorte, first opened in Michigan City in 2015. But it outgrew its original 2,000-square-foot taproom.
The craft brewery built a new home in a former warehouse building just west of the Blue Chip Casino on one of Michigan City's most heavily trafficked roads. The new site will allow it to double its production ability and expand its distribution capacity.
It plans to add 20 to 30 more jobs at the new location, which will be more accessible to cyclists since it's just off the new Singing Sands Trail in Michigan City.
Burn 'Em Brewing is expanding its taproom and adding a restaurant kitchen, an event center and an outdoor patio.
The craft brewery is known for using unusual ingredients like cream corn or Graham crackers and its slogan "Comforting the Disturbed. Disturbing the Comfortable." Its beer is widely distributed at supermarkets, liquor stores, bars and restaurants across the Region.
Burn 'Em cans feature creative and eye-catching label art similar to album covers that often feature skeletons in satirical situations. The labels won an Award of Excellence from the Premier Print Awards and helped turn Burn 'Em into one of the most instantly recognizable craft beers on liquor store shelves.
Burn 'Em plans to welcome the public to its new spot with a Shelf Ice afterparty from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday following the winter craft beer festival in Michigan City. It will have 24 taps of beer, ciders, seltzers and nitro coffee, wine and live music from American Eats Its Young.
The kitchen will not be open yet but Burn 'Em will bring in a food truck. There's a $5 cover after 7 p.m. for the 21+ event.
