Portage's new Founders Square Park downtown will feature free live music all this summer.
The Portage 2017 Summer Music Series runs Sunday afternoons June through August at the park at 6300 S. Founders Square, which opened in 2015. Musical acts will represent a number of genres, including rock, swing, blues and golden oldies.
Local act Hot Sauce will play from 1 to 2:30 p.m. June 11 at the Indiana-American Water Amphitheater stage.
"Hot Sauce is a dynamic husband and wife duo hailing from Northwest Indiana. Doug and Karen Lins showcase an eclectic mix of music, touching on classic country and rock, current country and pop, folk, bluegrass, jazz, and show tunes, as well as original 'spicy' tunes in support of their own small-batch hot sauce condiment product," a news release said. "With their solid harmonies and instrumental arrangements, Hot Sauce delights audiences throughout the Midwest. Besides their vocal talent, the duo features Doug's guitar work and Karen playing the porch board bass, autoharp, and various percussion instruments."
Concerts will be held rain or shine, and attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and umbrellas if the forecast calls for rain. The El Cantarito Mexican Cuisine food truck will be on hand to sell food.
Visitors also are encouraged to bring non-perishable food, personal items, and paper products for the Portage Food Pantry and the Gabriel's Horn Women's Homeless Shelter, but donations are not required for admittance.
