The holidays will be in the spotlight during West Side Theatre Guild's latest "Lyrics" production.
"Lyrics: Rebirth" will be presented at 7 p.m. today, Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday at West Side Theatre, 900 Gerry St., Gary.
The show features song, dance and the spoken word.
"This is our (the guild's) 21st season and the 18th installment of 'Lyrics,'" said Mark Spencer, director of the guild and "Lyrics."
Spencer presented the first "Lyrics" production in November 1996. It was a show that grew out of his work in the classroom in the early 1990s.
"This production has a Christmas theme and features a play within a play," Spencer said, adding "The Gift of the Magi" will be presented on stage.
The director said he's "grateful" for the community support "Lyrics" has received through the years. More than 60 individuals, including students, staff and members of the community, will be featured in the 70-minute show. The musical director of the work is Markeysha Coleman.
"It's very rewarding and quite humbling that the community has stood behind this since Day 1," Spencer said in a past interview. "It's gratifying to be able to serve the community and expose young people to the performance arts."
