Cheech and Chong to fire up New Buffalo crowd

Cheech and Chong will perform Jan. 11 in New Buffalo.

Hey man, mellow out because stoner comedian royalty Cheech and Chong will perform at the Four Winds New Buffalo just across the state line early next year.

Tickets go on sale at 11 a.m. Friday to see the Grammy Award-winning comedians best known for the 1970s cult classic "Up in Smoke."

Richard "Cheech" Marin and Tommy Chong, better known as Cheech and Chong, will perform at 9 p.m. Eastern Friday, Jan. 11 at the Silver Creek Event Center at 11111 Wilson Road in New Buffalo just off the first Interstate 94 exit east of Michigan City.

"Cheech and Chong found a wide audience in the 1970s and 1980s for their films and stand-up routines, which were based on the hippie and free love era, and especially drug and counterculture movements, most notably their love for cannabis," Four Winds casino said in a press release. "Cheech was born in South Central Los Angeles and met Chong in Vancouver, British Columbia as a political refugee. The duo moved back to Los Angeles and proved entertainment gold."

They racked up six gold albums, four Grammy nominations, a Grammy win for Best Comedy Recording for Los Cochinos in 1974.

"The critically acclaimed duo made a fluid transition to films, starring in eight features together," Four Winds said in the press release. "Equally successful with independent projects as they are a duo, each has appeared in dozens of movies and TV shows over the years and remain cultural icons."

Tickets start at $35, and hotel and dinner packages are also available at the casino, which has a Hard Rock Cafe restaurant.
