CowtoberFest returns to Fair Oaks Farms in October

Signes at Fair Oaks Farms directs visitors to some of its many attractions.

Fair Oaks Farms is bringing back giant pumpkins, super-elaborate Jack-o-Lanterns, live music and more fall fun at its annual CowtoberFest fall festival on Oct. 7 and Oct. 8.

“CowtoberFest has always been one of my favorite events to plan. Our idea was to bring those fall traditions to the farm and give our guests something to look forward to every year," said Leslie Rusk, Fair Oaks Farms marketing and special events director. "There are so many free activities and entertainment that I hope it creates a lot of great memories for the families attending.”

This year's CowtoberFest will feature trick-or-treating; a craft show; vendors; a "Calling All Monsters" dance competition; celebrity pumpkin carvers Jon Neill and David Smith of Food Network’s Halloween Wars; and various musicians, including former National Football League punter Hunter Smith, a Notre Dame graduate who helped the Indianapolis Colts win the Super Bowl in 2007.

He and the Hunter Smith Smith Band, a country/rock act, will play a concert at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 7.

And if that's not enough to pique your interest, the giant pumpkin display promises "some of the biggest pumpkins you have ever seen."

Attendance has been growing for about 40 percent a year at the annual festival at the popular agritourism farm at 856 N. 600 E. in Fair Oaks.
