Food lovers visiting Munster for a good meal won't be disappointed in the variety offered on the culinary scene.
Everything from Mediterranean, Mexican and Italian to Asian, Barbecue and more star in the spotlight in town. Sandwich shop fare, pizza joints and good old fashioned American cuisine are also in abundance.
The following eateries are just some of the varied fare diners will find traveling through Munster.
Mishkenut Mediterranean Cuisine
If you're looking for flavorful but healthy cuisine, plan a visit to Mishkenut Mediterranean Cuisine. The restaurant, located on Munster's Ridge Road, was established seven years ago.
"We've been extremely pleased with the feedback from customers," says Hal Hinnawi, about Mishkenut, which is a family-run business. Hinnawi's father Mohammad takes the helm as chef and manager at the restaurant. Hinnawi, her mother and other siblings often help out at the business.
Diners will find assorted dishes at the restaurant including everything from lamb recipes, hummus and grape leaves to Chicken Shawarma, various salads, pasta, fish and rice.
Hinnawi says they have many regular customers but are always attracting new clientele. "Many of our customers are vegetarian or vegan or have dietary restrictions, but we are getting a lot more people interested in the cuisine," Hinnawi says.
Also on the menu, guests will find items such as Samboosa and prune rolls, which are included on The Mishkenut Sampler as well as kabobs, lasagna, shrimp, apple cranberry salad and various drinks. Mishkenut also serves a Lebanese Tea.
Hinnawi says everything is made from scratch, and the food, packed with nutrition, fits well into a healthy eating plan. "It's good for you," she says.
Edwardo's Natural Pizza Restaurant
A mix of flavorful stuffed and thin crust pizza as well as other dishes star on the menu at Edwardo's Natural Pizza.
The restaurant was established in 1986 by Joe Samara. "This is the only Edwardo's south of the city of Chicago," Samara says. Through the years, Samara says, it's been his goal to continue to offer high quality Chicago-style pizza to customers in both stuffed and thin varieties. (Samara also owns Miner-Dunn's in Highland).
"It's called 'natural' pizza because everything is made from scratch," Samara says.
Among the popular pizzas at Edwardo's is the Stuffed Spinach, and in the thin crust variety, the Edwardo's Special featuring sausage, mushrooms, green pepper and onion, is a favorite, he says.
The pasta lineup includes ravioli, spaghetti, mostaccioli and linguini with a variety of sauces, and salads including fresh basil, antipasto, Caesar, chicken Caesar and others, star on the menu.
"We want to continue to offer the high quality we've maintained since we started," says Samara, stressing he's been committed to excellence over the last 30 years of operating Edwardo's.
