Today is Paczki Day and fans of the Polish pastry will be visiting local bakeries for various flavors of the sweet creation.
Paczki, which are similar to doughnuts, are traditionally served on Fat Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday. Individuals who are planning to fast for Lent usually indulge in the decadent treat that's filled with a variety of fillings.
"In Poland proper, Paczki Day is generally observed a few days earlier on the first Thursday before Ash Wednesday," according to foodandwine.com.
Fillings usually include everything from raspberry and apricot to prune, Bavarian cream, custard, apple and others.
Some home cooks may attempt to make a version of the popular sweet but most people go to their local bakeries to purchase pounds of the flavorful Polish creation.
If you want to indulge in the treat this year, the following bakeries are just some of the places where you can purchase Paczki.
