Merrillville Grecian Festival returns

The SS Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral's annual Grecian Festival in Merrillville.

Northwest Indiana has no shortage of Greek festivals, and one of the biggest returns this week.

The 48th Annual Merrillville Grecian Festival will take place from 5 to 11 p.m. Friday and from noon to 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Church at 8000 Madison St. in Merrillville.

"Festivities include Greek music, dancing, gift shop, beer garden and homemade Greek pastries," organizers said in a press release. "Generous portions of roasted lamb, shish-ka-bob, Grecian chicken, gyros and our award winning 'Greek Potatoes' await your appetite in our air-conditioned Great Hall. Whether making new friends or getting reacquainted with old friends, the outside beer garden is a perfect setting for your outdoor enjoyment."

The band Together will play Friday night, Caught on Cline will perform Saturday afternoon, The Nick Kazonis Band will play Sunday afternoon and Ormi will perform traditional Greek music from 5 to 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. And every night, Hellenic dancers will perform traditional Greek folk dancing at 7 p.m.

Admission is free, and so is parking at the church, which is located a block south of U.S. 30.
