Film Review Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri

Frances McDormand stars in a scene from "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri."

With seven total nominations, "Three Billboards" is one of the year's most successful films. At its heart, it's a crime story focused on a mother's desire for justice and a little revenge. But it also has elements of dirty cop in it, and some race issues, too. Frances McDormand is brilliant in the lead, and Sam Rockwell has maybe the best performance of his career playing off her. It won the top prize at the Golden Globes and SAG Awards, but it still probably lags behind "The Shape of Water" for Best Picture.
