Casinos and community involvement go hand-in-hand, so it should come as no surprise that the owners of Majestic Star Casino & Hotel in Gary are inspired on a regular basis to reach out to various charitable support organizations in the Region to help provide much needed funding and assistance.
The property recognizes there is a great deal of need within our community of military veterans, which is why it has chosen to host the Putting for Patriots golf tournament on Tuesday, July 24, at White Hawk Country Club, 1001 White Hawk Drive, in Crown Point.
If you enjoy a good round of golf on a beautiful course, or are interested in participating in a sponsorship capacity, your support really could not go toward a better cause. One hundred percent of the proceeds go towards helping our nation’s military heroes.
Now in its ninth year, the tournament in 2017 raised nearly $20,000 for Veteran’s Village in Gary, a $10.1 million development which opened in March of 2016.
The Village includes 44 units of supportive housing for veterans as well as a computer room, exercise room, roof garden, and restaurant that is open to the public and serves a dual purpose of providing training for veterans interested in careers in the culinary field.
“This year we’ve added Disabled American Veterans to our program, since it’s a program we so strongly believe in,” said Barry Cregan, general manager and senior vice-president at Majestic Star Casino & Hotel.
Disabled American Veterans (DAV) is a veterans advocacy and assistance organization with chapters around the country.
The local beneficiary of a percentage of the proceeds from the tournament will be the DAV Glenn F. Renicker Chapter 17 located in Hammond.
The cost per person for the tournament is $90 ($360 for a foursome) and includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, range balls and swag bags, as well as breakfast, lunch, and three beverage tickets.
Sponsorship opportunities include Premium ($5,000), Gold ($2,500), Silver ($1,000), Bronze ($500), and hole-sponsor ($200 per hole).
In addition to the competition revolving around the 18-hole round of golf, there are some fun and intriguing side competitions including “tiger tees”, hole-in-one, longest drive, longest putt and closest-to-pin.
Registration and breakfast on the day of the tournament is being held from 8 a.m. to 9:55 a.m. with a shotgun start at 10 a.m.
