ST. JOHN | With little fanfare and no comment, the Lake Central School Board unanimously accepted the resignation of Lake Central High School Principal Robin Tobias in a special meeting Wednesday.

Tobias, who has been principal since July 1, 2012, was placed on administrative leave April 21.

Lake Central Superintendent Larry Veracco announced the resignation, and declined to share the contents of the letter. Veracco said the resignation is effective immediately. Veracco said Tobias submitted his resignation on Friday, but would make no further comments about the matter.

Assistant Principal Sean Begley is acting principal of the 3,200-student high school.

Last week, Lake Central Assistant Superintendent Al Gandolfi called it a personnel matter, and said an investigation is underway.

"We will let the investigation play out. The school corporation and Mr. Tobias deserve that," Gandolfi said then.

According to the contract posted on the district's website, Tobias earns $111,196 per year.

A 1994 graduate of Lake Central High, Tobias earned his bachelor’s degree from Wabash College, and his master’s in administration from Indiana State University. During his career, he has served as swim coach, English teacher, dean, athletic director and assistant principal in three districts: Lake Central, Munster and Plymouth.
