PASADENA, CA - Our beloved Aretemis “Artie” Taseff, 90 of Pasadena, CA formerly of Merrillville, died peacefully in her home on September 19, 2018. She is predeceased by her parents, Paul and Krina Kyros, her living husband, Carl, and her sisters, Vicky Kyros, Gelen Stephens, and Maggie McDuffie.
Artie was raised in Gary, IN and met her husband, Carl, of 59 years at Froebel High School. After marriage and the birth of her three children. She received her B. S. in Elementary Education at Valparaiso University, her M. S. in Education at Indiana University, her Administrator's License at Purdue University and was certified in Gifted Education at Purdue University. Artie began her career as an elementary education teacher for many years in Merrillville before assuming the role of assistant principal at Homer Iddings School. She later became the Director of Elementary Education for the district. Artie's strength of character and commitment to excellence was appreciated by those she served.
Upon retirement, Carl and Artie moved to Pasadena, CA and enjoyed many vacations with family to San Diego, Hawaii, and along the Californian coast. Artie enjoyed serving as the president of the American Association of University Women's Pasadena Chapter and participated in trips to Australia and New Zealand visiting educators and children in several cities. She also traveled to Israel and around the Mediterranean region including Greece with her church.
Artie was a loving and dedicated mother to her three children, Debby Hanley (William) of Fishers, IN, Rick (Susan) of Placerville, CA, Randy of Pasadena, CA. She was a beloved grandmother to Bill Hanley Jr., of Indianapolis, Kelly Hughes (Joe) of Westfield, IN and John Taseff of Chicago, IL and two great grandchildren Hallie and Charlie Hughes.
A memorial service is planned for November 9, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Holy Spirit Parish at Geist Catholic Church in Fishers, IN.
