Dean's Landscaping - A sense of pride and an eye for perfection

President and owner of Dean’s Landscaping Dean Savarino is a self proclaimed perfectionist. And in his line of work, that is a good thing. “No one is pickier than I am when it comes to our work,” chuckles Savarino, whose full service landscape company has serviced clients throughout Northwest Indiana and the Chicagoland area for over 20 years.

With more and more homeowners staying in their homes far longer than they had originally planned, the idea of making the most with what you have is certainly the goal for many. Creating an outdoor living environment that seamlessly ties into the feel of the home is one home improvement goal that remains high on the list of wants for homeowners.

“People are staying put these days, but are constantly looking for ways to reinvest in their home,” he says. “Our customers are looking to improve their yards, and often this includes creating a beautiful outdoor living area. I love to show the client the true potential of the space. Sometimes that could mean the addition of a pathway, small seating area or a simple water feature.”

Of course, the Northwest Indiana and Chicagoland area is filled to the brim with landscapers that can come out to cut the grass every two weeks. Yet, the discerning homeowner is looking for more - - and countless people look no further than the talented team at Dean’s Landscaping. Based in Schererville, the company brings an artistic outlook on the idea of landscaping. Whether it’s a small enhancement of an outdoor living space or a large total transformation, the talented staff of certified landscape installers and certified chemical applicators can make your landscape dreams a reality.

“We put much value on our ability to truly listen to our clients, but we also want to educate our clients throughout the process also,” says Savarino. “In terms of current trends, everyone seems to be looking for lots of color but low maintenance and we can assist our clients with the products and features that will work best. We are definitely an out of the box landscaping company. We are proud of the installation techniques and design elements that we can offer to our customers that can make their space much more than just your ordinary patio. Rather, we can look at the space and the home and visualize how it’s the finished product will look. For example, we like to use colors and flowers that will remain a constant interest throughout the season.”

Their expertise also allows the company to trouble shoot the site for any possible landscape design limitations, and make the necessary preparations to ensure everything goes as planned. Of course, no patio, whether big or small, will truly come to life without constructing the floor surface first. Dean’s Landscaping’s extensive use of patio pavers certainly helps them stand out amongst their competitors. The durable, low maintenance brick pavers come in an array of colors and styles, and create a look that your family and friends won’t soon forget.

“We have partnered with the best manufacturers and suppliers in the industry to get the top-notch products that will guarantee the most durable and beautiful construction,” says Savarino. “Our pavers are from Belgard, a world-class manufacturer of the widest varieties of pavers.”

To better ensure their work, Dean’s Landscaping offers a 7 year warranty on all of their Belgard brick work, combined with Belgard's lifetime warranty that can be transferred from homeowner to homeowner if needed. “I love being able to use hardscaping to create something not only beautiful, but artistic,” says Savarino, whose company received the coveted World Class Award for 2011 Best in Class from Belgard via a Midwest competition amongst landscape contractors from Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana and Southwest Michigan. “It's all about utilizing pavers in an intriguing way to create a beautiful space.”

Throughout their 20 year history, Savarino says he has constantly looked at ways to expand the company from its roots as a simple landscaping company with a limited number of services to offer. One of the best examples of this never ending expansion was the opening of their Garden Center just over six years ago. Located at 238 Kennedy Avenue in Schererville, their Garden Center offers a wide variety of trees, shrubs and annual flowers along with a range of lawn and landscape supplies for the true do it yourselfer.

“The Garden Center is just another way that we can give our clients something above and beyond what they are expecting,” says Savarino, whose Garden Center has been recognized as a Best of the Region. “We are thrilled that this is the first year that we are growing our own perennials that we can then go ahead and use in our hardscaping. Having a hand in the growth of a more excellent product is extremely gratifying.”

And for Savarino, having the chance to expand on his personal and passion to create unique outdoor living area has also been a gratifying experience. Driving home from a busy day at work, Savarino passes by a number of homes. The owners of these homes were once given the title of clients. Yet, these days, many have earned the title of friends.

“There is a definite sense of pride knowing that we had our hands in there from start to finish,” he explains. “Watching a family grow and 6-10 years down the line, they are still enjoying the space…it’s just extremely rewarding.”
