HAMMOND — Firefighters responded to two blazes within an hour apart Saturday.

Hammond Fire Department Chief Jeff Smith said crews responded about 6:30 p.m. to a garage fire in the 4200 block of Columbia Avenue. The fire is under investigation, but Smith said the garage is considered total loss, as is the boat that was inside the garage at the time.

The homeowners were present at the time of the fire, but no injuries were reported, he said.
