Portage historical festival slated for Saturday

PORTAGE — The Portage Community Historical Society will help visitors take a step back in time Saturday.

It is  hosting its annual free Historical Summer Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Countryside Park, 5250 U.S. 6.

Events will include a kid's watermelon eating contest, kid's carnival games, hayrides, kid's fishing derby, Rudy the Magician, the Wolffgang Singers, Winamac Car Club, Good Time Cloggers, music, craft demonstrations and vendors and crafters.

Tours of the Traeger farmhouse and the newly reopened museum also will be available.

Food, from grilled meats to root beer floats, ice cream and pie will be available.
