Hobart police asking public's help in identifying man who smuggled alcohol in pants out of store

Hobart police provided an image from surveillance footage asking the public's help in identifying a man who is suspected of alleged alcohol theft.

Police are looking for help in identifying a man who allegedly stuffed bottles of alcohol down his pants at a Hobart store and is suspected to have committed similar thefts.

On Wednesday, Hobart police responded to the area of 1600 South Lake Park Avenue for a reported theft at a Hobart store, according to Lt. James Gonzales.

An employee told police that a man came in and filled a cart with cases of pop and then left telling the employee that he forgot his wallet and never returned.

The employee reviewed surveillance tapes that showed the man allegedly taking bottles of alcohol and putting them down the front of his pants as he walked through the store, according to Gonzales.

Gonzales said the employee told police that the man is suspected of other alcohol thefts using the same routine.

Anyone with information on the man's identity can contact Gonzales by email at lgonzales@cityofhobart.org or by phone at 219-942-4405.
