CROWN POINT — Another $5,000 was tacked onto the cash bond for an alleged serial robber after he was charged Wednesday with twice robbing a Subway restaurant in Crown Point.

Dionysios T. Doukas, 35, of Schererville, was charged Wednesday in the Nov. 5 and Nov. 18 robberies of a Subway restaurant, 1902 N. Main St., in Crown Point, according to court records.

The new charges bring the total number of robberies or attempted robberies in Lake County attributed to Doukas to 11. He is charged with committing two more robberies in Porter County.

A Lake County police detective testified at a bond hearing for Doukas on Tuesday that police suspected the defendant was involved in 21 robberies across Northwest Indiana.

The crime spree allegedly began Oct. 31, and ended with Doukas' arrest Nov. 20 after a high-speed chase that began in Lake County, according to court records.

Judge Salvador Vasquez said Tuesday that Doukas could be released from jail if he posted a $5,000 cash bond for each of the nine criminal cases pending against him at that time in Lake Criminal Court.

His cash bond on the new case is an additional $5,000, meaning he would need to post $50,000 in cash to be released from jail.

Doukas is next scheduled to appear in court Feb. 20.

Doukas spelled his first name “Dionysios” during testimony at Tuesday's bond hearing, but some court records indicate it is spelled “Dionysos.”
