NEWTON COUNTY — A "bad batch" of illegal drugs is being blamed for claiming the lives of four people as of Friday, according to Newton County Sheriff Shannon Cothran.
"Get help for your addiction now," he said. "If you have any information about these overdose deaths, please call 911."
Cothran issued the plea in the wake of numerous overdose calls locally.
"There is no easy way to write this as there are many views on addiction," he said. "But we recognize those that have lost their lives were someone’s son/daughter, brother/sister and/or someone’s parent. Our hearts go out to those families that have suffered a loss."
The overdoses are under investigation and, Cothran said, "we cannot speculate that drugs were 'laced' with something."
"Perhaps you have been fortunate that drugs have not touched your life or those that you love," he said. "Pray for those that are dealing with this in their families."
