CHESTERTON — A variety of jewelry was stolen early Friday after someone shattered the front door and entered Ashley's Jewelry at 221 Broadway, according to police.

Chesterton police responded to an alarm at the downtown business shortly after 3 a.m.

Police said a surveillance video inside the store showed a person wearing black pants, a blue sweatshirt and white shoes, as well as another person outside standing watch. The suspect from inside fled west on foot down the sidewalk.

The owner was unable to say exactly how much was stolen, but the front door and six display cases were shattered, police said. Missing items included necklaces, bracelets, rings and watches.
