HOBART — Three Hobart police officers are on paid leave pending an investigation of a fight between them that began late Sunday and carried into the early morning hours Monday, Chief Rick Zormier said.

The altercation between the three officers happened at a private residence in the city while they were off duty, Zormier said.

Zormier reached out to the Northwest Indiana Major Crimes Task Force to investigate the incident. Griffith Police Chief Greg Mance, who leads the task force, determined it was outside the task force's purview and instead assigned two detectives from his department to do the investigation.

"These matters come up from time to time and it is not out of the norm for a department to offer such services to another department," Mance said.

Zormier said once the investigation is complete, it will be presented to him to see what warrants discipline of the officers.

Officials declined to comment further on the incident Thursday.
