DEMOTTE — A Pensacola, Florida, man died Friday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 65 in Jasper County.

According to state police, Jerry L. Brown, 64, was a passenger in a 2007 Ford Expedition, driven by Francisca Brown, his wife, that veered off the highway at the 230-mile marker for unknown reasons and drove into the east ditch embankment.

The vehicle continued to travel in the grass until it reached the State Road 10 overpass where it drove up the underside of the overpass and struck the bridge, severely damaging the roof of the vehicle.

It then crossed the northbound travel lanes, drove into the grassy median and stopped after striking the southbound cable barrier, police said.
