Gary homicide victim identified as 28-year-old Miller man

GARY — A man found shot to death Friday in the city's Midtown section has been identified as a 28-year-old man, a coroner's release said.

Russell Chase, of Gary's Miller section, died from gunshot wounds in a homicide, according to the Lake County coroner's office. 

Chase was found about 8:41 p.m. in the 1200 block of West 16th Avenue, reports show.

Chase was the first of two men killed last weekend in Gary.

Isaiah Carter, 25, of Gary, was found shot to death early Saturday in the area of East Eighth Avenue and Virginia Street. Coroner's investigators ruled his death a homicide.

Gary police initially responded to the area for a report of shots fired, reports show. Officers learned while en route of a vehicle in a field.

Carter's body was found near a NIPSCO pole on Virginia Street, a coroner's release said.

Gary police have not yet released further details about either homicide.
