GARY — Police have a person of interest in a New Year's Eve shooting that wounded an 18-year-old woman, but they need more witnesses to come forward, Cmdr. Jack Hamady said.

The Gary woman was shot in the hip about 10:30 p.m. Dec. 31 during a party in the 1000 block of East 15th Avenue.

Witnesses told police they were inside a home when they heard gunshots and noticed the woman had been wounded.

Police want to talk to more witnesses, including those who were outside at the time of the shooting, Hamady said.

The woman was taken to a hospital for treatment, and Gary police processed the scene for evidence.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Sgt. Dan Callahan at 219-881-1210. To remain anonymous, call 866-CRIME-GP.
