GARY - An 18-year-old female from Gary is in stable condition after being transported to Methodist Hospitals Northlake Campus Monday night after suffering a gunshot wound, according to Gary Police Cmdr. Jack Hamady.

Police responded at 10:31 p.m. to a residence in the 1000 block of east 15th Avenue. Witnesses at the crime scene told police the 18-year-old and others were at a New Year's Eve celebration when gunshots broke out from an unknown direction, striking the teen in the hip, according to Hamady.

Gary Fire Dept. arrived on scene and transported the teen to Methodist Hospitals Northlake Campus. She was taken into surgery, according to Hamady.

Gary Police CSI processed the crime scene and the incident is under investigation, according to Hamady.
