Police suspect Nolan and McLaurin-McNutt met over the purchase of a MAC-10 compact semiautomatic gun. A robbery was attempted, and gunfire broke out, police said.

Police were considering the possibility that the shooting was gang-related.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Joseph Munoz at 219-852-2995.
