VALPARAISO — Three men are in custody after leading police on a chase into Lake County after being spotted lurking around a Valparaiso auto shop, authorities said.

Keith Conway, 26, of Hammond; Deonte Ewing, 20, of Gary; and Jamie Conway, 33, of Calumet City, were taken to the Porter County Jail and face charges of burglary, resisting law enforcement and criminal mischief, Valparaiso police said.

Police said they responded to a business alarm at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday and found a man holding a flashlight and looking through various vehicles within a secured fenced area of Certified Auto and Transmission at 1006 Calumet Ave.

The man fled from officers on foot and entered a vehicle that was later spotted by Porter County police in the area of U.S. 30 and Ind. 2, according to a news release. The vehicle headed into Lake County, where the group was apprehended.

Police determined the three men stole property from the business and had caused damage to the property when forcing entry.

"The Valparaiso police would like to thank the assisting agencies for aiding in the arrest of these subjects," the department said.
