CROWN POINT — A Hobart man was charged Thursday with molesting a 9-year-old girl during a sleepover at his house last fall.

Samuel Bontrager, 30, was the only adult in the home when the alleged sexual abuse occurred, Lake Criminal Court records state.

The girl told police she was sleeping when someone lay down between her and her friend and molested her, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Bontrager told police he was putting his relative back to bed after a nightmare and the bed felt wet, so he checked to see if the alleged victim was wearing a pull-up diaper by pulling her pants and underwear from the waist, records state. He denied molesting the girl.

The girl's father told police Bontrager had asked if he would need to wake the girl to use the bathroom during the night, and the father said that was not necessary, records say.

Bontrager was charged with two felony counts of child molesting. He was not in custody as of Thursday, records show.
