HAMMOND — A pedestrian was hit by a vehicle Monday morning as he tried to cross the street, according to police.

Police said the man had been walking at 169th Street and Kennedy Avenue near a Burger King when he was struck by a driver, who later fled south from the scene, turning onto the roadway in a smaller, black car. 

The pedestrian sustained non-life threatening injuries, police said.
