HAMMOND — Social media posts suggest a 23-year-old man gunned down Tuesday night may have been involved in an argument at a party just prior to being shot, according to authorities.

Quinten Kendrick-Taylor, of Hammond, was shot just before midnight in the 1300 block of Liberty Court, where the Lake County coroner pronounced him dead at 1:18 a.m. Wednesday.

"Investigators are looking into every aspect of the crime but do believe this to be isolated to a dispute between the victim and another party and do not believe there to be any public danger at this time," Hammond police Lt. Steven Kellogg said in a news release.

Kellogg said Kendrick-Taylor was an affiliated gang member, but it is not yet clear whether this incident was gang-related.

Hammond police responded about 11:10 p.m. to the area in reference to shots fired, Kellogg said. Officers located Kendrick-Taylor lying on the ground a short distance away from his residence on Liberty Court. He sustained at least one gunshot wound to the chest.
