HAMMOND — A 48-year-old man was shot in the neck, chin and arm early Tuesday when a fight among family members turned violent, police said.

Hammond police were dispatched to the 6900 block of Tennessee Street for a report of shots fired, Lt. Steven Kellogg said.

Police located the 48-year-old, who was taken to a local hospital by ambulance. Kellogg did not immediately have information on the man's place of residence.

Police took a 37-year-old Hammond man — considered a suspect in the shooting — into custody for questioning.

The 37-year-old was injured — but not shot — during the fight and also was taken to a hospital, police said.

The shooting remained under investigation.
